PENETRANT TESTING (PT)
The Liquid-Penetrant Method is one of the non-destructive testing methods. Owing to the phenomenon of the liquid capillarity (dye penetrant) which means the ability of liquid to penetrate thin discontinuities thus enabling the detection of open surface flat and narrow-slit discontinuities oriented into different directions (cold, hot cracks, hardening, grinding or fatigue cracks). It is used primarily for the leak proof tests of welded tanks, pipes etc.It is used both for ferromagnetic and non-ferromagnetic materials (austenitic steels, titan, copper, brass, bronze, tungsten) as well as for non-metallic materials (e.g. ceramics). The liquid-penetrant method can be useful for testing semi-products and finished product of diversified shape complication (big and small).
